It's time for an update...

I kinda gave up on updating my blog recently... I'll try to be better, promise-omise! ;)

Not tooooooooo much new going on in my life - just enjoying my weekends with good friends in both Sea and P Town. Here are some updates that should keep you all satisfied for a while, hehe:

- Just went to Arizona a few weeks ago to catch some spring training games, a Suns game (thank god they beat the Thunder) and catching up with my favorite bitches :)

- Made a few trips to Portland to see some Blazer games (can you say PLAYOFFS!), hang out with some good friends, have a few dance parties and drink a lot of booze! :)

- Got a couple of baseball fantasy teams going (although I'm feeling kinda apathetic about them right now, oops!) - I am most excited to have Grady Sizemore and Carlos Zambrano kickin some ass for me!

- Opening Day starts in a few weeks and then my busy life can start back up again!

- The birthday is coming up in April (which is my favorite day of the year, hehe) - I'm super happy about the labby top I'll be receiving - Thanks Ma and Pa!

- Planning another Florida trip to see my favorite L-Boogie and hop on down to M-I-A-M-I in September! Tickets are suuuuuuuuper cheap right now!

- Well that's about all... I don't plan too far in advance so this is all you get! :)

So, not much new to report on the blog...

The Mariners signed Griffey, so that's good (I mean GREAT!) It was one hell of an emotional roller coaster leading up to his final decision. But in the end, he chose right! Here's the latest story on the kid

18 days until I head down to Arizona for Spring Training and to see my most favorite girls!

Kim is moving in this weekend, Heather and I very excited!

My dad completely shocked me over the weekend by asking me if I knew what "Thirsty Thursday" was... I was like, yeah I might have heard of it ;-) He proceeds to inform me that him and his new friends celebrate Thirsty Thursday every week now. At 5pm they all go to this restaurant/bar that used to be an old Fire Station and they drink beer. Now that I think about it, it doesn't surprise me - I think my dad might be the coolest ever :-)

Updates...

I joined my first Fantasy Baseball League! One of my co-workers started a league (Ken Griffey Jr. Baseball) and so far I'm the first girl :-) I kinda hope some others join because I don't want to embarrass the boys when I kick their ass! (just kidding! or am I?...)

I have (had) a Fantasy Basketball team this year... But I gave up on it :-( A friend and I joined a random league very late and missed out on the live draft (so we didn't get to pick our players - for those of you who don't know shit about fantasy sports) we got stuck with shitty teams and couldn't really trade for anyone to make a solid team. The only guy I was really excited about was Rudy, for obvious reasons. He kicks ass. AND when you play against people you don't know, it kinda takes the fun out of it... you can't talk shit about their team when you see them :-) SO... I'm hoping for much better luck with my baseball team this year! :-)

Griffey update: Still keeping my fingers crossed!

Seattle PI's Sports Star of the Year

Thursday, January 22, 2009

On Tuesday night (20th) I attended the Seattle PI’s Sports Star of the Year Awards at the Westin in downtown Seattle. I was excited to go because I knew that there were going to be a lot of my colleagues in attendance and I like going to social events in the sports world. Unfortunately this could be the last year for this event because the Seattle PI is up for sale (due to our poor economy). So I’m very glad that I got the opportunity to attend this 74th Annual event honoring Northwest athletes from 2008. Because despite a major upset for Seattle sports last year, we have some incredible athletes making quite a name for themselves.

There was also quite the collection of people there… Front office staff attendance from the Mariners, Seahawks, Sounders, Storm, Emerald Downs, UW, WSU. I didn’t know how big the Sports Star of the Year Awards were… Past recipients of this award include but aren’t limited to: Brandon Roy, Shaun Alexander, Matt Hasselbeck, Lauren Jackson, Jamie Moyer, Ichiro Suzuki, Kazuhiro Sasaki, Gary Peyton, Alex Rodriguez, Lou Piniella, Randy Johnson, Edgar Martinez, Ken Griffey Jr., and the list goes on and on.

Steve Raible was the EMCEE of the evening. Steve was a Seattle Seahawks wide receiver (1976-81), an Emmy-winning news anchor for KIRO-TV and also serves as the radio voice of the Seahawks. Jon Lester (pitcher for the Boston Red Sox) was sitting at the table directly in front of mine. He was there to receive the 2008 Hutch Award (an award that has gone to Jamie Moyer, Curt Schilling, and John Olerud in past years).

It was amazing to be surrounded by such great, young athletes. Rick Rizzs, Jack Zduriencik and Dan Wakamatsu were also there to talk about the upcoming season and what they are looking forward to in 2009. Dave Neihaus got a standing ovation as he got up to accept an award for being inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame last July. The Mariners ended up having a strong presence at the banquet. It made me extremely proud of the organization that I work for; we have such accomplished individuals that I’m honored to call my co-workers.

It's now 2009 and it will prove to be an interesting year for Seattle sports. The Seattle Sounders start their season at Qwest Field on March 19th. They have already sold over 18,000 season tickets, which is quite remarkable. They will be exciting to watch. We have baseball starting April 6th (opening day is April 14th). With all the changes that Jack Zduriencik is making, I’m so excited to see what’s in store for us. I have a lot of trust in him and I can’t wait to start the journey that will be the 2009 season.

Staying Connected

Tuesday, January 20, 2009

That's what I'm trying to do, and do better in 2009! With all these sites (Facebook, Myspace, gmail, blogs, Sports Marketing 2.0, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc...) It can take up your whole day staying connected and building your professional network! I'm starting to switch gears and be more professional with my social networking pages...
  • I have recently downsized my gmail chat to only include co-workers and working professionals in my field (It was too much of a distraction for me at work and I was losing focus easily). Although, I'm not really chatting on it much anyways.
  • Myspace is pretty much non-existent for me.
  • Facebook is starting to become more of a networking tool for me and a place to connect with other professionals and share things that happen in the sports world with my networks.
  • Twitter (still trying to get into it - I'm getting there!)
  • LinkedIn - Has great groups and good discussion boards that I'm getting more involved in
I did not make any New Years Resolutions this year, but I did set some goals for myself... I have no timeline to complete anything, I just want to work harder professionally. You have no idea how huge the world of Sports PR and Sports Marketing is until you completely dive into it. It's a great place for me to be right now, it's a great fit for where I am in my career. I don't want my job to be something that I just show up at every day. It's a huge part of my life and I have the opportunity to make something bigger of my situation here and I intend on doing that!

:-)

TRIPS, TRIPS, TRIPS!

Tuesday, January 13, 2009

I'm planning trips! Going to AZ in March to see my FAVORITE BITCHES and SPRING TRAINING! BUT, I have many more to plan throughout 2009. Here's what I am thinking and I want you all to let me know if you'd be interested in going anywhere with me, you know it's going to be fun! :-)
  • Picking up the ballpark tour... CHICAGO? - I'd HAVE to see a Cubbies game (and a White Sox game, blah) and make the trek up north to Wisc. to catch a Brewers game... sinice I'd be soooooo close.
  • PITTSBURGH-CLEVELAND-DETROIT? That might be too much for a 4 day weekend? BUT, I'd knock out three ballparks, three major cites and cross a great lake... hmmmm
  • FLORIDA - I'd love to go see my favorite Blazer girl - We'll I'm going to make another trip there, I just need to figure out my schedule for the best time of year to go back there.
  • ANYWHERE ELSE? I've been wanting to go back to New Orleans for a while now... possibility?
This all seems like enough to keep myself busy for 2009...

Goodbye 2008, Hello 2009

Monday, January 5, 2009

It's now 2009!

As I look back on the events of 2008 I can't help but feel very fortunate for everything that has happened to me over the past year... I can honestly say that it was one of the best years of my life to date. So many new and exciting changes, so many great things have happened to me. I'm so grateful to be in the position that I'm in and so lucky to have been offered this opportunity here.

I left Portland (a city that I will always love) and moved to Seattle for my career. I miss Portland and my large friend network, but I'm also excited to build on that here in Seattle. I feel so blessed to have such wonderful friends in my life! I've realized over the past year the friends that I don't need to hold on to and the friends that I need to keep... and what I'm left with is an amazing, eclectic group of people that light up my life.

Even though my Christmas break didn't turn out at all like I expected it to, I ended up having an amazing break none the less. I got to experience the bum life and just hang out and do whatever I wanted for two weeks (all paid too, hehe). I spent a lot of time catching up with good friends and spent time with a few new fun ones too. I had a wonderful NYE with a friend at a very fun, relaxing party... Couldn't think of a better way to welcome in the new year!

I am now back in Seattle and back to work. I'm so excited for this year and can't wait to see what happens! I'm excited for our season to start in April and hope Seattle starts to get excited about NW sports again. We'll see... I'm hoping for the best, as always.

It's going to be a great 2009, I can already tell :-)
