I've got some exciting news to share with you all!

I really & truly believe that if you want something to happen, you've got to do it yourself. I believe that if you want a change, you have to be the one to make it. I am a firm believer in persistence & hard work. You just have to posses the motivation and drive to accomplish it.

Lately, I have felt like I needed to make a change in my life, most specifically with my career. My job is fun & there are a lot of perks (which people seem to comment on, have their own opinion about, & remind me of daily), but it was getting to the point where I was outgrowing my position & there isn't any room for growth within my company. I had to make a decision; do I stick around doing the same thing over & over & run the risk of getting stuck in a rut, or do I make a career change & try to move on to something more challenging? For me, the choice was an obvious one. Although I knew I would miss my life in sports, I knew that I needed to make a change. Don't get me wrong, I loved my job, there was nothing wrong with it, I just needed a change.

When I first started working in sports (almost 6 years ago now) I thought I would stay in the industry forever. Working in sports in college & into my late twenties has been such an amazing experience. But I got to the point when I was ready for a change.  Don't get me wrong, I'm going to miss this environment; I've had some amazing opportunities & experiences. It's a part of my work history that I definitely wont ever forget.

Here is the change that I made...

I am happy to announce that I was offered a new position with a company that is far from the professional sports industry. Squeal! I am beyond ecstatic about this new opportunity & new chapter in my life! (I don't think I mentioned yet, but the position is located 3 hours south of me, in Portland!) Double squeal! I've worked really hard for this, I'm super happy & can't wait to share more as I get more acquainted in my new role.

While I am super excited, I also feel a great deal of sadness. I thought when I got a new job offer I wouldn't be anything less than ecstatic.  (And while I am ecstatic...) I am also overcome with emotion when I realize that I wont get to see all of my co-workers everyday that have become my family over the past three years. Three years ago when I moved to Seattle, I started a whole new job in a whole new city & I did it all by myself. It has been a very successful three years, both personally & professionally. I am going to miss what I worked so hard to build,  what contributed to my strong sense of independence.

On the flip side, it's comforting to know that I have a great future ahead of me. I'm going to have a new career in my favorite part of my favorite city. Luke & I will no longer be in a long distance relationship & we can finally work towards doing all the things that we've dreamed of for the past two years (which in itself, is another huge factor in accepting this new position). I can't wait for all the changes, challenges & happiness that lie ahead :)

  5. Yay!!!! From reading your blog, I got the sense that you really missed Portland, and I'm so happy for you.

I can totally relate to what you're going through. I left sports journalism last year, and even though I still miss it, I'm really glad to have gone in a different direction. Life is too short to keep doing the same ish.

My fiance and I also did the long distance thing for the first 1.5 years of our relationship. It was tough, but we are so much better for it. Now we cherish even the little things like being in the same room together.

I wish you nothing but the best as you embark on your new adventure! And how rad is it that you got to work for the best team in all of baseball?! :) GO M'S!
