lovely little weekends

I love my family. I especially love when they come to visit for the weekend. My favorite part is the first night when I know that we have so much fun to look forward to all weekend long. Of course, my least favorite part is when they have to leave to go back home. I'm lucky in that we're only 3 hours away from each other, we could be farther - & that would be hard...

This past weekend when they were visiting, we tackled a LOT of yard work. I purchased some old whiskey barrels & my dad built us some garden boxes for the backyard. We picked up lots of potting soil, seeds & starters for heirloom tomatoes, zucchini, lemon cucumbers, okra, green onions, basil, thyme, lavender & rosemary. I'm crossing my fingers that everything actually grows & I don't mess it up :)

In addition to getting loads & loads of yard work completed, we were able to find some time to escape down south to the Wooden Shoe Bulb Co. to check out the Tulip Festival. But if you know Oregon weather & the strange winter that we had this year, you'd know to expect the unexpected. When we got there we expected to see fields & fields of colorful flowers... Sadly, only a few fields were in bloom. Luckily you can't really tell by these photos. So glad I brought my 50mm lens & not my zoom :)

  2. This post totally made my day! We don't have many flowers up here in MT yet, just a few daffodils here and there, so seeing all those beautiful tulips put a huge smile on my face! They're my favorite!
Looks like you had a lot of fun with your family :) I know how you feel, 3 hours seems far away even when it could be much worse!
