Happy Friday

Friday, March 30, 2012

Something that I think I'm going to love SO MUCH about my new job is that if I work later during the week, I get to leave early on Friday. So, today I get out at noon! :) It would be even sweeter if it wasn't pouring down rain & I could work in the yard & plant some pretty spring flowers... :-/ Oh well, after I finish up some boring stuff like taking my car into the shop & finishing up some cleaning around the house, I'm treating Luke to a date night! He doesn't know where we're going & I can't wait to surprise him. It's been a while since we've gone out just the two of us, so I'm beyond excited to re-connect over a fun dinner & drinks. The rest of our weekend is going to be pretty low-key... I'm getting ready for a work trip to Minneapolis on Monday, so I want to take advantage of some down time while I can :)

I hope you all have a fantastic weekend!! Are you doing anything fun?

If you've visited my blog lately you've probably heard the crickets. I know I have. Between our trip to Vegas for Luke's birthday, starting my new job, traveling for training for my new job, & just trying to keep up in general, this blog naturally takes a back seat. I'll try, try, try to be back soon with pictures from our fun trip to Vegas & everything else we're doing around here. I've just been too busy & exhausted to keep up lately. Hope you all understand :) Be back soon!

& because who doesn't love a good quote :)
something we should all remind ourselves of every single day!

Happy Birthday, Boyfriend.

Saturday, March 17, 2012

Today is Luke's birthday.
Today Luke turns the big 3-0.
Today is also St. Paddy's Day.

You know what that means?

It means we're already in Vegas, celebrating over a 3-day weekend!

See ya when we get back!

{friday's fancies}

Friday, March 16, 2012

We're headed out to Vegas bright & early tomorrow morning. Of course, we'll be there for St. Paddy's Day (also Luke's birthday), so I picked out an outfit to wear while taking in the sights of sin city. I've been to Vegas a handful of times already, so we're not doing anything touristy... just celebrating Luke's big day with another couple coming with us. I can't wait to relax in the sun with Luke & our friends! Happy St. Paddy's Day (tomorrow) everyone!

Society 6 iphone cases

Thursday, March 15, 2012

Okay, I'm in the market for a new iPhone case. I have a flimsy little black case that cost a few dollars & it's really not my style (at all). I've been browsing the cases at Society6 & there are SO MANY that I love! I've narrowed down my choices to six, so now I need YOUR HELP. Which one should I get? Scroll down below to vote!

Blueberry & Raspberry Crumble Bars

Wednesday, March 14, 2012

I've been craving some sweets lately. I've been really good with my workout routine & eating healthy, so I thought I would treat Luke & myself to an indulgent dessert. I made these blueberry & raspberry crumble bars over the weekend & they were just the delicious treat that's been missing in our lives!

1 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup cold unsalted butter (2 sticks or 8 ounces)
1 egg
1/4 teaspoon salt
Zest and juice of one lemon
4 cups fresh blueberries
1/2 cup white sugar
4 teaspoons cornstarch

1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Butter a 9×13 inch pan.
2. In a medium bowl, stir together 1 cup sugar, 3 cups flour, and baking powder. Mix in the salt and the lemon zest. Use a fork to blend in the butter and the egg. The dough will be crumbly. Pat half of dough into the prepared pan.
3. In another bowl, stir together the sugar, the cornstarch and the lemon juice. Gently mix in the blueberries & raspberries. Sprinkle the berry mixture evenly over the crust. Crumble remaining dough over the berry layer.
4. Bake in preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until top is slightly brown. Cool completely before cutting into squares.

{friday's fancies}

Thursday, March 8, 2012

It's been a little while since I've joined in on {av}'s Friday's Fancies & since I've been on a huge shopping kick lately, I thought it would be fun to participate this week. Okay, seriously, I'm not kidding when I say that I've been on a huge shopping kick this week. After a few months of saving & not buying anything, I thought it was fair to treat myself in honor of getting a new job, which I start this Monday!! I might have gone a little overboard with new clothes to wear to work, but I deserved it :)

The outfit that I put together is what I plan on wearing in Vegas this next weekend. I bought these exact floral pants at H&M & these exact shoes at Macy's these week; I'm just itching to wear them out on the town now! The rest of the items are at H&M & I think would compliment this outfit well.

Less is More

Tuesday, March 6, 2012

I recently got rid of so many clothes that I haven't worn in ages. My closest and our extra room were getting completely out of control! I had clothes stacked up in piles because I was running out of room in my closet & my dresser was already maxed out. I decided it was time to downsize & donate! And I've never felt more free! Now my dresser drawers easily glide shut instead of giving them a forceful push. And my once overstuffed closet now has a little extra breathing room!

Ahhh, it felt so freeing to rid my closet of clothes that I hadn't worn in years. I had khakis from college, shirts from Forever 21 that were easily 4-5 years old (how those weren't all ripping at the seems I don't know...). I had dresses that I bought & only wore once & a zillion "sleep shirts" or "workout shirts" that just needed to be tossed. And the underwear drawer... That one got a major overhaul! I easily cleared out half of its contents! Anything dingy? Gone! Socks missing their other half? Trash! Now I'm left with only things that I want to wear.

Less really is More. It's now much easier to look through my closet for outfit combinations, since I no longer have old clothes cluttering up the space to sift through. Believe it or not, it takes less time to put together an outfit because I can go right to what I'm looking for & not stumble over old items.

And now there's the cleaning rule. Do you know about the cleaning rule?
My sister told me about this & I think it's kinda brilliant. For every 10 pieces of clothing you get rid of, you can buy one in its place. Or, for every 5 pieces of clothing you get rid of, you can buy one accessory. I'm happy to report that I cleared 70 items out of my closet (not counting the underwear drawer, that all went straight to the trash)! Wow, that seems like A LOT. But trust me, I still have a lot that I kept, too.

So in honor of me starting my new job this next Monday (yes, that's right, I accepted a new job & with a great company!) I'm going to use my allowance of 7 new pieces to add to my closet! Actually I kinda cheated already & bought a blazer, two dress shirts & a cardigan from Nordstrom Rack the other day. Okay, I can buy 3 new pieces now! :)

It doesn't look like it, but I swear there are 70 things here!
All donated now :)
