I am wondering why I am not in Chicago right now...

Luke traveled back to Indiana to visit his family and attend his 10 year HS reunion (we're old now...). A trip that I couldn't make happen because I was too nervous leaving town at the beginning of the baseball season. He went to the Cubs game today and they won 11-5 (glad they pulled out a win for his visit!). Now I am really wishing I was there :-/

Chicago is DEFINITELY the next place to visit on my list!

Sophie's new book!

Wednesday, April 28, 2010

I was so thrilled to learn today that my favorite author has just finished a new novel in the Shopaholic book series that I feel in love with during college! I didn't think that Sophie was going to write anymore books for this series, so this news comes as a shock, but a most pleasant one! Mini Shopaholic will be Sophie's newest book in the series and will come out this September.

All of Sophie's Shopaholic books (Confessions of Shopaholic, Shopaholic Takes Manhattan, Shopaholic Ties the Knot, Shopaholic and Sister & Shopaholic and Baby) are so funny, witty and just delightful to read. The main character, Becky Bloomwood, believes that retail therapy is the answer to all of her problems. She knows she should stop her excessive spending, but she just can’t. She tries cutting back and she tries making more money; neither seem to work. The stories she concocts become increasingly outrageous as she tries to untangle her enormous piles of collecting debts. But you just can't help but fall in love with her quirky personality and her reasonings just make you laugh.

Shopie has also written some other great books (Can you Keep a Secret, The Un-Domestic Goddess, Remember Me & Twenties Girl). Like the shopaholic series, these books have fun-loving, quirky characters coupled with Sophie's witty and charming writing style. [For my birthday, Heather bought me Sophie's newest novel, Twenties Girl, which I am also very excited to get started on!]

I love Sophie's books because they let me relax and unwind. These books are just so much fun and are they are so creative. It's nice to just lose myself in a book and not worry about what else is going on in my world. It's such a great escape at the end of the day. If I'm having a rough day or just need a break, her books can always put me in a good mood, clear my head or just give me a quick dose of imagination before I finish my day.

Sophie's books just put a smile on my face :)

America's Prettiest Towns

Monday, April 26, 2010

I was looking at this slideshow of America's prettiest towns and felt the travel bug ticking again. Most cities on this list aren't large scale cities, but rather picturesque communities. I am always doing research on cute & new places to visit (someday I'll actually have to go visit these places and report back...) but for now I'll just continue to daydream and add a few more cities to my wish list.

My favorite lovely little towns I've already seen:
- Sedona, Arizona (on the list!)
- Savannah, Georgia (on the list!)
- New Orleans, Louisiana
- Santa Cruz, California
- St. Augustine, Florida

Lovely little towns I really want to see:
- Charleston, South Carolina
- Bloomington, Indiana
- Cape Cod, Massachusetts
- Portsmouth, New Hampshire

What are your favorite little towns??

Lately I've been struggling with blog topics. What do I write about? What will other people find interesting? What do I have going on in my life that is worth sharing? Until I can figure this out, I'm going to stick with the old standby of "weekly update" or "recap". I know this is the least creative way to let you all know what is on [or what was] on my mind - but here goes!

Last week [well let's say last weekend]: Friday, April 16. The Birthday. 28.

Yes, last Friday was my birthday - it was awesome! On Friday, Abby, Luke and Heather joined me for a Mariners game. [how lucky am I to have my best cousin, best sister and best friend/boyfriend all join me at the same time??] I didn't pay too much attention to the game because I was too busy surrounded by my peeps and having some birthday drinks [likely story]... Tony, Keshia and Brent joined too! What great company! :) After the game we went over to the Hawks Nest with everyone & Demetrius [my birthday twin] to have more birthday drinks and shots. Long story short - drank my fair share and then some and called it a night.

On Saturday my parents came to town, Luke's aunt, uncle and cousin came to town & we all went to Sport [by the space needle] for some lunch. After a brief detour to the liquor store we made our way over to Pyramid to the beer garden and hung out under the tent sipping on [cheaper than ballpark] beers. When we made our way over to the ballpark and into our suite for the evening, I was greeted by Gina & Derek and Kaitlin, Josh & Connor! What great friends to come up from Portland to join me in continuing on with the birthday festivities!

It was a wonderful weekend and I'm so happy that all my favorite people were able to spend time with me. Cheers to turning 28 and to a great year to come! <3

Oh, I forgot to mention that the baby puppy turned 1 year old on my birthday too! :)

Happy Opening Day 2010! GO M's!

Birthdays Smirthdays

Thursday, April 8, 2010

Happy Birthday today to my wonderful Mommy! Heather and I are driving down to Tacoma after work tonight to meet the mom and the dad for a birthday dinner at the LobsterShop (best seafood ever).

I hope you have the bestest, most relaxing day today! I'm excited to celebrate with you tonight :)

And while we're on the topic of birthdays... Mine is coming up on the 16th (hint hint - wink wink). Luke keeps talking about some present he's getting me (like "Oh, I just got an e-mail that your present is ready to be picked up..." and "Oh, I'm going to pick up your present right now..."). Yet he doesn't drop any clues as to what it is, he just tells me things that keep confusing me - the suspense is killing me! But he's pretty much the best bf ever, so I'm sure whatever it is, it's going to be wonderful ;)

I'm also super excited about the birthday this year because I got a Suite that weekend and all of my favorites are going to be joining me for a baseball game (that and drinks before and after)! My family, Luke and his family, and some of my best friends are all coming up for it. It's going to be such a fun weekend, I wish it were here right now...

It's grill time!

Friday, April 2, 2010

I ventured over to Home Depot on my lunch break today and found the outdoor grill I've been looking everywhere for! And at only $99, I snatched it up and went back to work! I can't wait to get home unload, assemble and start grilling! (when we move into the new place of course...) This grill is going to fit perfectly on our new little patio :)

I was searching for some grilling accessories and came across these innovative little grill baskets that are perfect for veggies and shrimps! Might have to hop over to Sur la Table this weekend and check these out...

I can't wait to start grilling up some meals like these...
