Blogging Every Day in May

Tuesday, April 30, 2013

Jenni at Story of My Life is challenging everyone that wants to participate to blog every day in the month of May! Visit her blog if you're interested in joining along, too!

I'm both very excited & a little bit scared to take on this challenge. I still love blogging, but sometimes I get so busy with work & life that I don't have the time & energy to spend another few hours of my day in front of the computer cranking out a blog post. I'm hoping that during this month I can re-kindle my love for blogging. Let me know if you plan on taking on this challenge as well! I can't wait to see how it turns out!

PSU Farmers Market

Monday, April 29, 2013

This Past Saturday we took a little trip downtown to the PSU Farmers Market. The weather was gorgeous (as it has been around here lately!) & the park blocks were full of people. We wandered in & out of each produce stand, scoping out the best veggies to buy. In the end we only walked away with some spring red onions (which we later used for this dinner recipe here), & a slice of some pretty authentic Chicago style pizza. See, not only are there tons of produce stands, there are tons of food stands as well - it would've been hard to pick just one - but Luke saw the deep dish pizza & was immediately sold.

& here is the pizza.... yummmmm

Screen Door

Screen Door | 2337 E Burnside St, Portland, OR 97214
Truth be told, I've been waiting a long time to do a blog post about Screen Door, I just actually had to go eat there first! Of all the places in Portland that are on "my list", this place is the one place that I was most excited about visiting. Last week Luke had a co-worker in town from San Francisco so we all ventured out here for dinner. I have to say, it lived up to the hype. It was pretty delicious! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone & everyone. We got SUPER lucky & only had to wait a few minutes for our table... I've heard stories of people having to wait over an hour to get in! So plan accordingly if you're going to go!

Diet, what diet? Fried okra & hush puppies. At least we split them with the whole table...
Shrimp & grits. My weakness.

Wedding Wednesday: My Bridal Shower

Wednesday, April 17, 2013

My aunt Holly & cousin Abby (also my bridesmaid!) hosted the sweetest Bridal Shower for me last weekend! They hosted the shower at my aunts condo in the Pearl & I had some of my most favorite ladies in attendance. My aunt made the yummiest salads & we sipped on some delicious sangria. Holly & Abby put so much thought into this day - I'm always going to remember how special my bridal shower was :)

This next part is the best. See Luke on Abby's iPad??

Holly & Abby had a list of 10-15 questions about me. Abby asked all the ladies to answer the questions, so the girls started writing their answers down on a sheet of paper. Then we were ready to start answering the questions to see who got the most right! Abby pulled out her iPad & announced that she had secretly met up with Luke beforehand for lunch, asked him all the questions & recorded all of his answers! After she repeated the question, we found out what all the girls had guessed, I gave my answer & then we heard Luke's answer on the iPad. It was so sweet & one of the most memorable parts of the day! We definitely had a lot of laughs at all the different answers.

Sunday afternoon at Cathedral Park

Sunday, April 14, 2013

A few weekends ago, when the weather was perfect, we ventured over to Cathedral Park to take Gracie for a walk & snap a few pictures. Of course I didn't take any pictures of the park itself, just the gorgeous bridge that runs overhead. A little while ago we vowed to take Gracie to as many parks as we can this summer. Even though it's not summer yet, this day still counted as the temps were up towards 75 degrees, making it feel like a legit summer day in Portland.

Wedding Wednesday: Photographing a Wedding

Wednesday, April 3, 2013

This past Saturday we went out to celebrate our friends (Paul & Katie!) on their engagement that had just happened earlier in the day. We were leisurely enjoying drinks at the bar out on the patio & talking here & there about upcoming weddings.

Our good friend Kara (Katie's sister) is recently engaged as well, as of about a month ago. Her & her fiance are thinking about a destination wedding next year, so we've been talking a lot about our planning process & I've been trying to give her some tips & tricks along the way. While deep in wedding conversation she asked me to be her wedding photographer!! WHAT!!!?? My first thought was, ME??!! REALLY?!?! I said YES of course & kept asking them if they were sure they wanted to pick me. I said yes a couple more times, laughed, smiled & couldn't believe my ears that they asked ME! It means so much that they would trust me to take pictures for their special day. To say that I'm excited is a major understatement.

I've got a lot of practicing to do in the next year - but I'm confident that I'm gonna rock it!

I have never shot a wedding by myself before, but I've attended a few where I've taken lots & lots of photos & then later gave them to the couples. I've always felt that attending a wedding is an awesome opportunity to practice my photography, so I'm glad that I have a few of those under my belt.

Here are some of my favorite shots that I took at a family friends wedding a little while back. It was the best wedding we had ever attended :)

April Goals

Monday, April 1, 2013

Happy Monday, friends! This past weekend was the best weekend that I've had in quite a long time. I was in kind of a funk after work on Friday & had a hard time snapping out of it. But as soon as work ended we got tickets to the Blazer game with some friends & then learned that our friend was proposing to his girlfriend that next day - so we spent that evening out with them (keeping our lips sealed about the next day) then also met back up with them to celebrate on Saturday evening. The rest of the weekend was spent with family & enjoying the 74+ degree sunshiney Portand weather - which is totally unheard of for March! All in all, it might have been the perfect weekend. Now that it's April, I have some goals to list out! :)

April is going to be a great month, I already know it! My mom celebrates her birthday at the beginning of the month & I'll celebrate mine in the middle of the month (the 16th, for those that would like to send presents...). Just joking (not really... ;). My aunt & cousin are also throwing me a bridal shower in April, too! :)

- Do something really nice for my mom's birthday (on the 8th)
- Price out/plan our kitchen remodel! - OK, I got so excited for this one that I completed it before I even published it here! We priced out our kitchen remodel & started purchasing the supplies for it! We're going to tackle this project after the wedding - so starting this summer Luke & Holly will have butcher block counter tops & subway tiles in the kitchen! I envision myself just standing and staring in awe, upon completion...
- Shampoo the upstairs carpets (hello boring homeowner chore!)
- Finish a few sewing projects that I've been putting off for a long time.
- Hit up some garage sales (is it time for those yet)?
- Plan our own garage sale!
- Figure out what needs to go in our garage sale...
- Continue working on a personal photography project. Something kind of big happened over the weekend - something big that I need to start working towards & practicing for... :)

March Goals

- Do something nice for Luke's birthday (on St. Patrick's Day) - I bought him Mariners/Cubs tickets!
- Finally attend Portland Flea - We did this!
- Continue with our health & fitness plan (more on that later...) - Totally still on track with this!
- Do sit-ups/lunges/squats at least three nights a week - Oops, at least I'm still on track with my health & fitness plan!
- Find a florist that doesn't suck in Cabo (this is harder than you think...) - I'm giving up! Seriously. I was quoted $185 for three stems of peonies, $85 for 3 stems of hydrangeas & $60 for ten stems of ranunculus. WTF. I've emailed back & worth with every florist in Cabo & no one is budging on the prices. I'm told that flowers in Mexico are ridiculously overpriced if you try & special order them. I'm going to end up taking a major risk & buying flowers when we arrive there - a few days before the wedding. Please say a little prayer for me.
- Finalize some wedding decisions (favors, programs, etc) - Finalized decisions - Now just working on the content for the programs!
- Take my camera out every weekend - I did this! Now I just need to push myself to take more photos!
- Finish backing up my photos! - Oops! :(
- Work on a personal photography project - Still brainstorming!
- Take Gracie on two different hikes (poor puppy needs to get more exercise) - We did this!
