Thursday 13

Who says you have to start your week off on a Monday?

In my efforts to blog more often I have created the "Thursday 13". Every Thursday (hopefully...) I will post my 13 thoughts for the week. I like this better than the "weekend update" that I usually fall back on. So here goes, lets see if I can keep up with this every week!

01 - I am super nervous/excited/hopeful and looking forward to tomorrow &*#$%&*#$!

02 -I wish I was better about attending my spin class this week...

03 - My student job-shadowed me at work and on-field with clients this past Tuesday. I really enjoy being a mentor to students - I love sharing my knowledge and experience with students and helping out in any way that I can.

04 - My old co-worker posted this on her fb status and I totally agree: It worries me that some folks seem to be more freaked out about the FB privacy settings than the BP situation. [I agree]

05 - I just got an invitation to my friends wedding in August and I am so excited because her and her fiance are such a great couple and I know that their wedding will be so much fun!

06 - There's been a few times this week where I wish that FB was still only available to the college educated. I've seen a few posts that I really should be submitting to

07 - Lately TLC has been airing a lot of great documentaries... But it's bad when you stay up until 1am watching them...

08 - I saw this posted on and it made me really sad. When you think you live (or lived) in a safe city - there are still awful people other there.

09 - Lately I've been thinking a lot about wanting to purchase a house - but on my salary - this is impossible. Plus I don't want to buy anything in Seattle...

10 - I'm getting a sore throat - and I don't like it.

11 - I have decided that I love day games during the week! We've had two in the past week and they've been wonderful!

12 - Heather and I have been trying to pick a new restaurant every month - I think we are going to fail at May...

13 - I am excited for a 3-day weekend!

Tonight we're going to see Tim McGraw and Lady Antebellum at Key Arena! The 2010 Southern Voice Tour makes a stop in Seattle (as part of a 50-date tour, from February through August) today!

This was Tim McGraw's setlist from his opening show in Omaha, NE:

Real Good Man
Last Dollar (Fly Away)
Where The Green Grass Grows
Let It Go
She's My Kind Of Rain
Back When
Just To See You Smile
Down on the Farm
Everybody Hates Me
Feels So Right
Blank Sheet of Paper
If You're Reading This
Tiny Dancer
It Felt Good On My Lips
Things Change
I Like It, I Love It
Something Like That
Southern Voice
Sing Me Home
Angel Boy
Live Like You Were Dying
The Cowboy In Me

He has some great songs in there! I'm most excited for Southern Voice, one of his newest songs, but I'm sure when I here "Something Like That" and "I like it, I love it" it will bring me way back to growing up [wow - that was a while ago!]. But, I'm not going to lie, I am most excited for Lady Antebellum. I missed them last summer when they were touring with Kenny Chesney because we got there too late - I gotta make sure to get there on time tonight!

I had a lovely weekend the past few days. I kept thinking, what interesting things could I blog about that don't include "weekend update" or "weekend re-cap", so I gave myself an assignment. My assignment was to take pictures of my adventures from different angles. My goal was to capture my life from a new perspective [I half failed at this mission because I didn't take any pictures until Sunday].

On Sunday, we decided that the day was too nice to be spent inside, so we went up to the Rose Gardens and the Oregon Zoo. Although the roses aren't in bloom quite yet, it is always beautiful there, especially on a nice day when you can just walk around the trails. We hoped over to the zoo [where we officially decided that we never want to have kids]. My favorite part of the zoo was the Lorikeet Landing [how have I never heard of the tiny birds?]. You can walk through an open-air aviary with tiny cups of nectar and these tiny lories land on your hand, too cute!

Hope everyone else had a wonderful weekend, too!

"One Year" Date Night

Wednesday, May 12, 2010

This past weekend Luke and I had a date night at the Metropolitan Grill. We dressed up all fancy and went downtown for dinner and drinks! I received a $125 gift certificate in the mail at work and decided it would be the perfect place to take Luke when he came to visit. I'm usually not a huge fan of steak, but here they are exceptional. Right when you walk in there is a display case that features the different types and cuts of steaks that are available [of course we only noticed this on the way out].

Our waitress was great and she had a very extensive knowledge of the menu; she gave detailed answers about everything. If you didn't know anything about steaks when you arrived, you would after you left! The prawns I had as an appetizer were ahhhhmazing and my filet mignon with garlic mashed potatoes was perfect [I even had some to take home with me!].

When I made our reservations online, I noted that we were celebrating our one-year anniversary [this is neither true or untrue because we don't have a "date" to celebrate]. Our waitress was so kind to deliver us a crème brûlée to share [on the house]!

This was such a fun evening because we almost never go out to fancy places or dress up for a night on the town. And best of all, we got a $151 meal for around $45 [had to pay for drink and a nice tip...].

A little of this... A little of that...

A while ago (about a year and a half ago to be exact) the "25 things" survey was floating around on Facebook and everyone was compiling their lists and tagging all of their friends. Well, I am going to re-visit that list today. I'm sure I can come up with 25 "new" things - hopefully I can list 25 things about myself that you didn't even know before! :) Here it goes!

1. I'm trying to be better about blogging. It's a great way to document and share my life with everyone (or anyone - if they read it). Sometimes I struggle with what to write about, but I do like having a blog to categorize my thoughts.

2. I would LOVE to have an iPhone - but work currently pays for my cell phone and I am really spoiled to not have that bill to worry about.

3. The only thing that really scares me about being a home-owner is that I tend to move around a lot... Not just switching residences, but states. I've lived in 3 states in the past 5 years. I have a feeling I might not be done yet either...

4. I LOVE my cycling class! It's a tough work-out and you sweat the entire time, but my legs feel great afterward. It's totally worth it.

5. I love photography and it's something that I really, really want to pick up again in the near future. I'd love to have my own darkroom someday so I can develop my own prints.

6. I'm convinced that I'm going to win the lottery. I just need to buy a ticket...

7. One thing I have found that I don't like about moving is that 9 out of 10 friends will not come visit you. I am usually the one that visits them. I wish people were more willing to step outside of their comfort level.

8. I miss Portland on a daily basis and it's not just because Luke lives there...

9. My parents have the best little puppy, ever. I can't wait until she has puppies so I can have one!

10. I'm addicted to those Baked Lays Southwestern Ranch potato chips - I can (and have been known) to eat a whole bag in a day. They taste like a burrito!

11. Someday I'll make it over to Europe (after a failed attempt).

12. I want to move to Chicago (even though I have never been there).

13. I have the best boyfriend. Serious. It was a bit of a rocky start - but everything fell into place and it's better than ever!

14. If I could afford to, I would outfit my entire wardrobe from Anthropologie. I can't get enough of that store.

15. My 10-year high school reunion is this summer and I have no interest in going at all. I don't care for 95% of the people I graduated with. High School was neither great nor terrible for me, it just was. Cliques were terrible, there were a lot of rude girls and I have no interest in re-uniting with people that were superficial. High School was not a pivotal period in my life, it was just school. I'd rather have a college reunion with my college friends.

16. I have recently taken to fake nails. I've had them for about a month now and I love them. I know it's cheesy.

17. I am slightly obsessed with all things Southern.

18. Marriage doesn't scare me. Having kids really does though.

19. I've been on two hot air balloon rides. The last ride our balloon hit a tree and I thought I was going to fall out.

20. I am slightly obsessed with Farmville. I know it's lame. I hide all the notifications on my wall so people don't know that I'm farming everyday. It's quite embarrassing actually.

21. I love my family more than they know. I have a LOT of aunts, uncles and cousins that I rarely get to see. I think about everyone often and hope that everyone is happy.

22. I'm so excited to go to Indiana with Luke! You have no idea. I know most people might not be excited to visit a Midwest state, but I can't wait to see where he grew up, where he went to college and everything in-between.

23. I really, really miss my college. Although, it brings back such weird memories when I do go back. I can't wait for this fall so I can go back for Beaver football.

24. I wish I could take more time off work for road-trips. I've always wanted to do a road trip around the country - or take a road-trip to visit every ballpark.

25. If I could only choose three channels on my TV it would be: Food Network, Travel Channel an ESPN. In that order.

Who's Rojo Johnson?

another great weekend in the books

This past weekend was fantastic. Luke came up to visit (which he is so great about!) The weather was beautiful and we accomplished a lot.

[Friday] Went to the M's game [but left early because it was frustrating].

[Saturday] Woke up early and went to the 8am spin class [Luke went, too!] and then spent the day together until our dinner reservations at the Metropolitan Grill downtown. I had a gift certificate that allowed us to each get an appetizer and a steak dinner. It was amazing! When I made our reservations I might have said that we were celebrating our anniversary [which is funny because we don't have a real date to celebrate] so they brought us a crème brûlée for desert [on the house!] After dinner wen went to the Purple cafe and wine bar to have a drink before we cabbed it home. GREAT NIGHT :) [oh, did I mention that we got all dressed up super fancy, total date night!]

[Sunday] Happy Mothers Day! We traveled down to Tacoma to have a seafood buffet brunch with Mom, Dad and Heather. It was amazing too [so much lobster and shrimp]. We had a great day with my awesome mommy! :)
