Our Weekend (in Instagram)

Monday, April 30, 2012

This past weekend was very relaxing, just the way we wanted it! We started off Friday night by celebrating the end of the work week with friends & Luke's family. We made breakfast on Saturday & on Sunday, went for a  few bike rides, went to the gym & then relaxed on the back deck with a fromage & charcuterie plate (accompanied by wine, of course). It was the most relaxing weekend that Luke & I both needed.

In my make-up bag

Friday, April 27, 2012

Paula's Choice Shine Stopper // I have semi-oily skin, so after I moisturize I apply this shine stopper product. It gives my face a matte feeling that lasts all day. It's the perfect base for my foundation.

Nars Sheer Glow Foundation // I am in love with this foundation. It took me a while to find one that I liked; one that didn't leave my face feeling trapped. This sheer glow foundation matches my skin tone perfectly & give me just the right amount of coverage without feeling cakey.

Smashbox Halo Hydrating Powder // I love this powder for freshening up. It's hydrating, so it feels amazing when you use it during the day when you want to freshen up your face.

Sephora Eye Liner Electro // I've been using this eye liner for a while & I just love it. It has little hints of sparkle, so it's a fun twist to add to my eyes.

Urban Decay Eyeshadows // I actually own the Naked Palette & these are my three favorite shades that I always go to (Toasted, Sidecar & Sin). *I actually am not a huge fan of the Naked Palette... I wish I wouldv'de bought the Naked2 - MUCH better colors*

Nars Blush & Bronzer // (In Orgasm & Laguna) I love this blush & bronzer set. It adds just the right amount of color to my very light skin.

Sephora Lip Gloss // (In red fizz) I just started using this & I love it. It's the perfect glossy red & stays on my lips for a long time.

I love... cameras

Tuesday, April 24, 2012

It's no secret that I love cameras. No secret at all. For Christmas my dad surprised me & gifted me 12 vintage cameras! I know, right?! I don't know if any of them work, but they sure are beautiful to look at. I have them all displayed on a shelf in our dining room & I just love looking at them :) And, for as long as I remember, I've always loved cameras. From photography classes in high school & college, to always having a camera with me at all times... Cameras have always been a part of my life, a very important part. & while I'll probably never stop adding to my collection, I've complied a few more ways to collect what has become a huge love in my life...

This past weekend my seeester came to visit & we had the most unbelievably warm weather! We tried to spend as much time outside soaking up the sun as we could. We also took advantage of the gorgeous light in the backyard... she let me practice taking photos of her (the only way to get better is practice, practice, practice!) I think they turned out good, & she's just too cute :)

Good Friends

Monday, April 16, 2012

This past weekend one of my best friends & her boyfriend came from Phoenix to visit Luke & I for a very long (& very fun) weekend. They'd never been to the Northwest, I'm sure all that they knew about Portland was from Portlandia, & that everyone says it rains here all.the.time. :) Lucky for them the weather cooperated & it was sunny & in the 60's all weekend. At some point on Sunday we were all feeling pretty warm & toasty in the sun at the Portland Saturday Market - that can only mean that summer is on it's way, right?! :)

We spent the weekend showing our friends around town, eating VooDoo Doughnuts, browsing through books at Powell's, strolling down some cute shops on Mississippi, catching a few happy hours (at Portland City Grill & Oba) breakfasting at Stepping Stone, dining on a delicious dinner at Russell Street BBQ & some bar crawling in the Pearl Dist (Deschutes, Henry's & Blitz). It was such a fantastic weekend, I didn't want it to end.

I only get to see Erin about once a year, but every time we just pick up where we left, like no time has passed. I know we'll be friends forever because of that :) (The only thing that was missing was Cheyenne). She was definitely there in spirit though :)

More Portland photos coming soon :)

Welcome to Portland!

Thursday, April 12, 2012

We've got the house sparkling clean.
The refrigerator stocked full of goodies.
The guest room all set up with clean sheets & fresh flowers.
The guest bathroom stocked with extra goodies, in case our guests happen to forget anything...
A "Welcome to Portland" gift bag waiting on the window sill...

Today my Phoenix best friend & her boyfriend are coming to visit for a long weekend! They've never been to Portland, so we're going to show them everything that this wonderful city has to offer. We're taking them to Powell's Books, VooDoo Doughnuts, Multnomah Falls, a good happy hour spot, a popular breakfast spot... & then anything else that they can think of!

If you're from Portland, or currently live here,
what are your recommended "must-see's" or "must-do's"?

lovely little weekends

Tuesday, April 10, 2012

I love my family. I especially love when they come to visit for the weekend. My favorite part is the first night when I know that we have so much fun to look forward to all weekend long. Of course, my least favorite part is when they have to leave to go back home. I'm lucky in that we're only 3 hours away from each other, we could be farther - & that would be hard...

This past weekend when they were visiting, we tackled a LOT of yard work. I purchased some old whiskey barrels & my dad built us some garden boxes for the backyard. We picked up lots of potting soil, seeds & starters for heirloom tomatoes, zucchini, lemon cucumbers, okra, green onions, basil, thyme, lavender & rosemary. I'm crossing my fingers that everything actually grows & I don't mess it up :)

In addition to getting loads & loads of yard work completed, we were able to find some time to escape down south to the Wooden Shoe Bulb Co. to check out the Tulip Festival. But if you know Oregon weather & the strange winter that we had this year, you'd know to expect the unexpected. When we got there we expected to see fields & fields of colorful flowers... Sadly, only a few fields were in bloom. Luckily you can't really tell by these photos. So glad I brought my 50mm lens & not my zoom :)

My Insta-Weekend

Sunday, April 8, 2012

1. Luke & I went to see Young The Giant on Friday night @ the Roseland Theater.

2. One of my favorite buildings in downtown Portland.

3. Young The Giant. This concert was so much fun! Before the show I didn't know much about them & I was pleasantly surprised at how much I loved them!

4. New candles from Anthro - They make the house smell ahhh-mazing!

5. Beautiful tulips at the Wooden Shoe Bulb Co. in Woodburn, OR for the Tulip Festival.

6. Wooden Shoes at the Tulip Festival!

7. My best girl, Erin, sent us this sweet framed print for our house. I can't wait to see her later this week when she comes to visit from Phoenix!

8. We did so much landscaping this weekend! I bought a few of these whiskey barrels for the front of our house & we planted some herbs - I can't wait until they start growing!

Hope you all had a good weekend, too :)

On working hard...

Thursday, April 5, 2012

This week I'm doing some more training for my new job. I'm in Minneapolis at the company headquarters meeting up with some of my peers & trying to soak in as much information as I possibly can before I head back to Portland late tonight. One thing that I've noticed to be a common theme around here is that this company is full of genuinely good people & hard workers. I've yet to come across someone that wouldn't bend over backwards just to help me out & make my training experience even better than it has been. It's little things like that, that make work so much more enjoyable & worthwhile. I'm really starting to think that there is a reason why this job worked out & all of those other ones that I applied for didn't... I feel like I'm in a good place, with good people & that makes me all the more excited to work even harder.

Viva Las Vegas

Tuesday, April 3, 2012

It had been a while since I had been to Vegas. I had been a few times in college; once for spring break & another for my sisters 21st birthday. This time we went to celebrate Luke's 30th. We took along our good friends Craig & Alyn... & had a great time! :) Our bodies were killing us at the end of our 3-day stay from all the walking we did! I don't doubt that we walked miles & miles & miles. I snapped about 600 pics & had the hardest time narrowing down the good ones to share with you all. Hope you enjoy :)

Day 1: It's St. Paddy's Day (aka Luke's 30th birthday). Everyone on the plane sang happy birthday to him, he got a crown made out of bags of peanuts & everyone on the flight got a free drink (Luke got three...). We arrived in Vegas around lunch time & immediately went to In-N-Out, hehe. The rest of the day consisted of a little bit of drinking & game watching at various bars. By the end of the day we were all exhausted.

I have Craig to thank for the above photo :)
 There's that man can again!

Day 2: We walked A LOT, up & down the strip. My feet were killing me, so I stopped & bought a new pair of shoes. Best decision I ever made :)

Apparently the fountains at the Bellagio only look cool at night. Boo.
I'm kinda freezing... It only "looks" sunny.
Okay, these next three pictures are my favorites. They were taken at the Wynn while walking through the casino...

Day 3: Our last day in Vegas. We drove over to Fremont street & did a lot more walking :) We also explored the Palms & Mandalay Bay... Then proceeded to wait at the airport for a much delayed flight later that night. Good times :)
